Leader in developing compassionate workplace cultures and two-time cancer survivor gives new voice to the cause.

Denver, CO, July 10, 2024 – With a call to “help us think bigger,” Kathleen Quinn Votaw, local business leader and recognized author and speaker, has accepted an invitation to serve on the board of Susan G. Komen Colorado. Known for promoting workplaces that “dare to care,” Ms. Quinn Votaw’s expertise and passions, plus her own diagnoses of two primary cancers, align perfectly with Komen business objectives and mission.

Ms. Quinn Votaw joins a team of other hand-selected business leaders on the board to raise funds and provide counsel with the overall Komen goal of eliminating breast cancer in women and men worldwide. Corrina Steiger, Executive Director, Colorado, describes the team this way, “Our Colorado board is a group of passionate individuals who want to end breast cancer forever.” Terms are for two years with an option to continue.

Susan G. Komen is well known for its annual October walks that raise money for breast cancer research, prevention, and cures in countries worldwide. The Colorado board is broadening that scope to provide additional help for women in small communities that do not have the means to handle the financial, logistical, and emotional consequences of managing the disease.

Remembering her cancer journey, Ms. Quinn Votaw recounts that “When I was first diagnosed with breast cancer, I set a meeting with my team. I told them about my illness and then lightened the load with a little laughter by warning that ‘Cancer picked the wrong boob!’ Everyone wanted to do something, so we created and sold tee shirts, donating over $2,000 in profits to Komen. Now I can do more on a higher level.”

With a range of business expertise, Ms. Quinn Votaw will advise about opportunities to diversify fundraising strategies beyond the “pink” walks. Her recognition in the public sphere offers a platform to create awareness of the disease and the ongoing need for funds. “I will give my voice to the cause and fight back with all that I’ve got. Like any successful organization, we always need to be thinking and planning ahead.”
