In these episodes of Dare to Care in the Workplace, Kathleen welcomes Dr. Marie-Hélène Pelletier, author of The Resilience Plan.

Dr. Pelletier shares her journey from becoming a registered psychologist to exploring leadership, management, and the intersection of psychology and business. The two discuss the concept of resilience, and Dr. Pelletier explains that resilience is not a personality trait, but rather the ability to navigate adversity and demands while growing stronger. She emphasizes that resilience is a state that can be developed strategically, much like businesses develop strategies for new products and services.

In the second part of this episode, Kathleen and guest Dr. Marie Hélène Pelletier dive deeper into the topic of burnout in the workplace. Dr. Pelletier explains that burnout is defined by the World Health Organization as an occupational phenomenon with three main characteristics – exhaustion, cynicism, and reduced professional efficacy. She emphasizes the importance of recognizing the early signs of burnout, such as reduced energy, disengagement, and tasks starting to fall through the cracks, before they progress to full-blown burnout with exhaustion and cynicism. Catching burnout early makes it easier to course-correct.
